A fire broke out at the Belmont Street Community School in Worcester Tuesday morning, according to a spokesperson for the Worcester Public Schools.

The small fire broke out at 8:30 a.m., in one of the fifth grade classrooms leading to students and staff evacuating the building, the spokesperson said. All students and staff are safe and no injuries were reported.

The Worcester Fire Department responded to the fire for “several minutes” before allowing everyone back into the building, the spokesperson said.

“There is some damage to a fifth-grade classroom and the odor of smoke is present,” the spokesperson told MassLive. “As a result, some classes were moved to the gym and cafeteria; others were able to return to their classrooms.”
