NORFOLK, Va. — Four people, including two inmates, are facing charges related to a scheme to smuggle drugs into the Norfolk City Jail to inmates, the Norfolk Sheriff's Office shared on Tuesday.
Deputies said on November 5, a deputy and four inmates were inside the jail compound dumping trash, when another deputy inside of the jail monitoring the security cameras noticed someone approach the compound fence and dump a package inside the fence, behind a dumpster. One of the inmates quickly retrieved the package.
The deputy inside of the compound was unable to see the package drop, but the deputy monitoring the cameras notified them quickly, the sheriff's office said.
A search led to the recovery of the package, and it was found to contain "a significant amount" of cocaine and suboxone.
