For many around Scottsdale, Thanksgiving week doesn’t just wave the starting flag for the holiday season.

This is also the week where many take time out from hectic schedules and day-to-day concerns to dive into a deep concept:

Help others.

That’s the regular mission of the Scottsdale Food Bank, which helps families struggling to get by.

Relying on donations of food, the food bank recently acquired a new box truck to support “grocery store food rescue” efforts.

But the truck does not have refrigeration, limiting its usefulness in transporting fresh produce from multiple grocery stores.

Enter Councilwoman Jan Dubauskas, who rallied support to retrofit the truck with refrigeration.

She found willing helpers in Blue Zones, which donated $9,402,
