COLUMBUS, Ohio — In the season of giving, two women in their mid-90s continue to stitch kindness into the lives of people in central Ohio and well beyond.
Inside the Dominican Sisters of Peace convent, the steady hum of sewing machines mixes with bursts of laughter. It’s where Sister Mary, 96, and Sister Denise, 95, can be found five days a week, sitting side by side as they sew hats and quilts for people who need them most.
Their mission began during the COVID-19 pandemic, when they started sewing masks. With decades of sewing experience between them, they quickly realized their work could reach far beyond the walls of the convent. Since then, they’ve created and distributed hundreds of handmade quilts and hats across Central Ohio and to places as far as Arkansas and Tucson, Arizona.
