LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A Pekin, IN man is dead after a shooting that occurred early Thursday morning.

The Washington County Sheriff's Department responded to reports of a shooting around 1:30 a.m. in the 9000 block of Bush Road near Pekin. Upon arrival officers found a man, Juan Gutierrez, who had been shot and was unresponsive.

Officers and EMA personnel transported Gutierrez to Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Salem, IN, where he later died.

Indiana State Police detectives and investigators were brought in to collect evidence and conduct interviews. After the preliminary investigation was complete, investigators arrested Philip James Hawkins,22, of Pekin, IN.

Hawkins is charged with one count of reckless homicide, a level 5 felony. Hawkins was arrested and incarcerated in the Washington
