MEDINA, Ohio -- Few people spend the bulk of their time in a cemetery. But since 1998, TaMara Conde has done just that.

Owner of Historic Gravestone Services in New Salem, Mass., Conde travels around the country restoring historic gravestones.

She spent several days this past fall working in Medina’s Old Town Graveyard on East Liberty Street.

One of the projects funded by Medina’s Friends of the Cemetery is to preserve the old stones in the graveyard.

To that end, they hired Conde to repair broken stones and to restore and erect fallen markers.

Conde began conserving and restoring historic gravestones after studying conservation techniques through several institutions, including the National Parks Service and the Cathedral Stone Products Certification Program.
