Arizona’s history has always been defined by water; its scarcity, its management, and our resolve to make the most of every drop. Long ago, the Hohokam dug miles of canals through the Salt River Valley. Roosevelt Dam, carved into the Salt River over a century ago, laid the foundation for modern Arizona, turning vision into engineering, and engineering into life. The Central Arizona Project became reality because leaders dared to believe that water could be brought across the desert to sustain a growing people. In tandem with these engineering marvels have been smart policy choices.
