INDEPENDENCE, Iowa – A not guilty plea is entered over an attempted murder in a small town.

Raymond Leroy Gienau, 70 of Rowley, is scheduled to stand trial starting February 4, 2026, for attempted murder, going armed with intent, assault while participating in a felony, willful injury resulting in bodily injury, assault with a dangerous weapon, and first-degree harassment.

The Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office says Gienau got into his SUV on October 24, pulled out onto the roadway, then drove through the ditch onto a male neighbor’s property, hitting his neighbor, and then crashing into his neighbor’s garage.

Investigators say Gienau’s neighbor bounced off the hood of the SUV and landed on the ground. The neighbor says that after Gienau got out of his vehicle, Gienau said “I hope you di
