Expansion FC Supra du Quebec took University of Montreal midfielder Calin Calaidjoglu with the first overall pick in Friday's Canadian Premier League-U Sports draft.
Calaidjoglu, 24, scored six goals and added three assists in U Sports play this season. Named a second-team all-Canadian, he scored in a 2-0 win over Laval in the RSEQ final.
Born in Moldova, he grew up in LaSalle, Que., playing for the CF Montreal youth team with a loan stint in Italy with Bologna. He has also played for FC Laval in Ligue1 Quebec.
"Calin fits the type of soccer that our coaches want to install on the field … He's a good footballer," said FC Supra president and co-founder Rocco Placentino.
