WURTSBORO – Charlie Corrigan grew up in the Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood in midtown Manhattan in the mid-1970s, and his mom always cooked extra turkey dinners for police officers working the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade.

Tables would be set arranged in the hallways of the five-story walk-up, located at 55 th Street and 10 th Avenue, with adults eating on one floor and children on another. Meanwhile, every tenant kept their apartment door open, so guests could mill about and celebrate the holiday.

That sense of community is what inspired Corrigan and his wife, Tammy, to start the Community Thanksgiving dinner at St. Joseph’s Church in Wurtsboro 17 years ago. This year, husband and wife, along with several dedicated volunteers, delivered approximately 100 free meals to mostly senior c
