Rutgers pushed Terry Smith’s Nittany Lions to the limit before PSU gained control of this Big Ten contest late, prevailing 40-36 on Saturday on a defensive touchdown.
Penn State is 6-6 and bowl eligible. Rutgers ends its season 5-7.

Rutgers had the lead (36-33) and the ball in Penn State territory. But Scarlet Knights quarterback Athan Kaliakmanis had the ball slip out of his hand for a fumble.
Penn State linebacker Amare Campbell picked it up and raced 61 yards for the eventual game-winning touchdown with 7:27 to play.
