Iam grateful for the inspirational Thanksgiving Day editorial citing the words of President John F. Kennedy (“John F. Kennedy on the relationship between gratitude and hope for our democracy, Nov. 27).
Never have these words been more appropriate than today with the shaky state of our democracy. We are called on to do our part, “with equal toil and devotion” to continue our democracy for the future.
To observe Thanksgiving “with reverence and humility” will be a good starting point for moving forward, making sure this hope and equality is extended to all: enough to eat, shelter, health care, and work with dignity that pays for these basic needs.
When it comes to “those less fortunate” it is time to fix America’s safety net, and address the underlying problems that make it necessary.
