Tulane football coach Jon Sumrall has agreed to become the next head coach at Florida, ESPN and On3 reported on Sunday.
It was not immediately clear if Sumrall will remain with the Green Wave to coach the team through the postseason. Tulane has a good chance to earn a spot in the College Football Playoff with a win over North Texas in the American conference championship game on Friday.
ESPN’s Peter Thamel reports that Sumrall is in the process of finalizing a six-year deal that will pay him nearly $7.5 million per year. He would receive significant incentives tied to the College Football Playoff.
Sumrall is 19-7 in two seasons at Tulane (10-2, 7-1), which will host the American conference title game at Yulman Stadium
Sumrall is 42-11 in his career as a head coach, including a 23-4
