A woman was hospitalized after accidentally shooting herself outside a local grocery store Saturday.

According to the Irmo Police Department, it happened at around 6 p.m. in the parking lot of the Food Lion at 6021 St Andrews Rd.

The woman told police she was moving a gun from the center console of a parked vehicle to her purse when she unintentionally fired the weapon.

She was hit in the upper body and taken to a local hospital for treatment. Police say the wound did not appear to be life-threatening.
