FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Ryan Silverfield has officially been named the 35th head coach of the Arkansas Razorback football team, and some fans aren't happy about the announcement.
On Sunday morning, hours after rumors began to swirl of the Memphis coach's hiring, dozens of fans gathered outside the University of Arkansas athlete success center to protest the news.
One protester, wearing a brown paper bag and speaking to 5NEWS only as "Bag man," said the program needed to be saved, and Silverfield wouldn't be able to do that.
"We're just protesting because we're upset with the state of the program and the direction that it looks like it's going into," Bag man said.
When asked what triggered the protest, Bag man said it was due in part to the outcome of the "insanely long coaching search."
