GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - It’s official, the Gators have a new head football coach, and anticipation is building among students and fans about what this could mean for the upcoming season.
Jon Sumrall, previously the head coach at Tulane, has been named to lead the program, following the dismissal of Billy Napier.

“I’m really excited for the future. Hopefully, it’s better than Billy Napier, and hopefully, if he doesn’t do as well, we won’t keep him as long as we did with Billy Napier,” said Marco Melo, a student.
After parting ways with Napier, many students told TV20 the football program was in limbo. However, some students are now excited about the news that Sumrall is expected to take the reins.
