INDEPENDENCE, Iowa- Firefighters responded to a deadly crash Sunday after a car veered off the road and slammed into a house, leaving one person dead.

Crews arrived to find the driver unresponsive inside the vehicle. First responders immediately transported the individual to a local hospital, but officials say the driver did not survive.

Authorities have not yet released the victim’s name, and it remains unclear what caused the car to leave the roadway.

The impact damaged both electricity and gas lines inside the home, prompting emergency crews to secure the area. No additional injuries were reported, and those inside the home were not hurt.

The incident remains under investigation.
