The BBC Radio breakfast show in Scotland had to be pulled off air due to a fire in the building today, as more than half a dozen fire engines turned up to the studios to deal with the situation.

BBC Radio Scotland had to switch to pre-recorded music and content from BBC Radio 5 Live, while the TV news output from Pacific Quay building had to be suspended for a few hours too.

A fire alarm started going off at around 6.30 this morning, after a member of security staff had discovered that an air conditioning unit had caught fire on the fifth floor.

Staff were evacuated for about two hours while seven fire engines arrived promptly to the scene.

By around 8.30am, staff had been allowed to return to the building and started broadcasting again.
