LOUISVILLE, Ky. — More information is expected to be released Monday night after Jefferson County Public Schools’ announcement to close, consolidate and move five campuses.
The decision comes as JCPS faces a more than $180 million budget shortfall.
Superintendent Brian Yearwood proposed closing Zachary Taylor Elementary, moving Waller-Williams Environmental, consolidating King Elementary into Mopin Elementary and relocating the Georgia Chaffee Teenage Parent Program.
The district said it used a facility profile index for these decisions. The tool analyzes a facility’s condition, enrollment percentages and cost per student.
More than 165 teachers and staff will be affected.
