MENOMINEE, Mich. (WBAY) - A man originally from Marinette, Wisconsin, who was involved in one of the biggest U.S. government scandals of the 1980s has passed away, his obituary states .

Eugene “Gene” Hasenfus was 84 years old when he passed away after a nearly decade-long battle with cancer. He was surrounded by loved ones at his home in Menominee, Michigan, where he died peacefully on November 26.
