KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - A Knoxville Police Department officer was arrested in Sevier County Monday, according to the department.
It happened in the morning, according to KPD, when the Sevier County Sheriff’s Office took him into custody after a “domestic altercation” involving a family member. He was off duty at the time, KPD said, and charged with aggravated domestic assault.
Barnett joined KPD in 2011, according to the department. He worked as a patrol officer in the East District of Knoxville.
Now, the KPD Office of Professional Standards is conducting an internal investigation. That investigation runs parallel to any criminal investigation.
Barnett has been reassigned until the internal investigation is finished, KPD said.
