CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) announced Monday that travelers without a REAL ID will still be allowed to fly under certain conditions.
Beginning Feb. 1, 2026, passengers who cannot present an acceptable form of identification may pay a $45 fee to use TSA’s modernized identity-verification system, Confirm.ID.
The new technology will verify a traveler’s identity at security checkpoints and remain valid for 10 days. Officials said the process will vary by airport, and the TSA is working with private industry to offer online payment options before passengers arrive.
TSA reported that more than 94% of passengers already use a REAL ID or another acceptable form of identification. Officials continued to urge travelers without a REAL ID to schedule
