A garbage truck operator has died after he was struck by the truck he was operating in Scarborough on Tuesday morning, Toronto police say.

The incident happened around 8:34 a.m. in the area of Morningside Avenue and Sewells Road, investigators said in a social media post. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The ministry of labour has been notified, according to police.
