A charitable organization has bought a property in Ontario's Beaver Valley to protect the site within the Niagara Escarpment from development.

In a news release Tuesday, the Bruce Trail Conservancy (BTC) said it has acquired the former Talisman Mountain Resort lands near Kimberley, Ont., about 150 kilometres northwest of Toronto.

The acquisition of more than 48 hectares means the organization will permanently protect the land from development pressures and it provides opportunities for ecological restoration, it said in the release. And it means it has secured 885 metres of the Bruce Trail, it added.

Michael McDonald, chief executive officer of the organization, said in the release that the purchase is significant.

"This is a once-in-a-generation moment," McDonald said.
