On Nov. 25 — two days before Thanksgiving — the Harker Heights Police Department asked the community for information about an elderly man accused of shoplifting at H-E-B in Harker Heights.
HHPD posted a photo of the man on the department’s Facebook page showing the man pushing a grocery cart containing variety of foods ranging from meats, vegetables and even a festive cake.
On Tuesday, that social media post had close to 1,000 comments, with many seeming to be on the accused shoplifter’s side. Some Facebook commenters said that due to the appearance of the man’s age, possible confusion and what he was buying, the department should just let him have it.
