LYNNVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - Lynnville residents received this week their first bills under the new, higher utility rates.

The town attorney says Lynnville’s water and sewer utilities have been losing money since 2009, adding the rate increase will both balance the budget and catch up to where the rates should be.

But residents say the cost is too high and took to social media this week to express their frustration.

“It’s hitting a lot people hard and it’s going to hit a lot of, you know, people especially on a fixed income, the older people and everything,” life-long resident Kris Gresham said.

In September, the town council voted to raise sewer rates by 60% and water by 67%. That means, according to the Code of Ordinances , for every 1,000 gallons of water, the increase went from $8.
