AUBURN, Ala. - After finishing out the season as Auburn's interim head coach, DJ Durkin will remain on Alex Golesh's staff as the team's defensive coordinator, the university announced.

Taking the helm after Hugh Freeze was fired, Durkin coached the Tigers' final three games.

Auburn lost to No. 15 Vanderbilt in overtime, crushed Mercer and then lost a hard-fought Iron Bowl.

In a statement, Tigers' head coach Alex Golesh said: “Choosing to keep DJ on our staff was an easy call. Our relationship goes back more than 20 years to our roots in Ohio, we have worked with some of the same men, and we’ve competed against each other in this great league.
