ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — A major anchor is leaving Atlantic Station — and leaving nearby residents without a place to get groceries.

Publix , which has been open since 2005 when the shopping district came to life, will permanently close on Dec. 27.

Staff were reportedly made aware of the news on Monday.

“In our 95-year history Publix has never had a lay-off,” a Publix spokesperson told ANF. “We will offer associates at the Atlantic Station location positions at neighboring stores if they so desire.”

The grocery store was popular for those who live in the district and in the many residential units within walking distance. There are also several office buildings along 17th Street.

There are five other Publix stores within two-miles.
