The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences has been awarded a five-year, $10.5 million federal grant to develop biomarkers for human diseases, including cancer, university officials announced Tuesday.

The grant from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences, part of the National Institutes of Health, will support efforts by UAMS' IDeA National Resource for Quantitative Proteomics to make proteomics (a type of advanced protein analysis) available to biomedical researchers nationwide, according to a UAMS news release.
