PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A man is in the hospital after being shot in the chest during an attempted robbery on Tuesday night.

It happened around 11:30 p.m. on the unit block of East Pleasant Street in the city's East Mount Airy neighborhood.

Police say the 37-year-old victim was shot in the chest after two men tried to steal his coat at gunpoint.

The man managed to make it back to his house down block before police found him.

He was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition.
