A serious, multi-vehicle crash on I-57 in Morgan Park was backing up traffic into the south suburbs early Wednesday morning during the rush hour commute, with inbound lanes blocked as an investigation remains ongoing.
According to NBC Chicago crews on the scene, the crash was confirmed to be deadly.
The crash occurred just after midnight in the inbound lanes of I-57 at 119th in the city's Morgan Park neighborhood, NBC 5 traffic reporter Kye Martin said. As of 5 a.m., traffic was backed up as far as West Pullman, Blue Island, Posen and beyond, Martin added.
"It's locking you in as you come in from the south suburbs," Martin said, with a detour in place at 119th. "This is going to be a long time."
