DOZENS of academics and cultural figures have claimed Scotland’s national library is now “materially less safe” for visitors and staff because a gender-critical book was included in a prestigious exhibition.
The Women Who Wouldn't Wheest, a collection of essays from contributors including JK Rowling and former SNP MP Joanna Cherry, now features in a display marking the institution’s centenary .
The book was originally excluded amid claims it was “discriminatory and exclusionary”, but the decision was overturned following a public outcry.
Now a number of professors from Glasgow and Edinburgh universities have signed an open letter that claims the venue is no longer safe.
The letter states: “In September 2025, the library chose to include a certain book in a major exhibition.
