NEW ALBANY, Ind. — As winter weather sweeps through Kentuckiana, a White Flag Shelter in New Albany has already spent ten nights keeping Hoosiers safe from the bitter temperatures. The shelter, housed at Culbertson Baptist Church, is a collaboration between multiple congregations and the Homeless Coalition of Southern Indiana, all working together to support vulnerable community members.
Inside the church gymnasium, around 50 cots are set up each night, ready for anyone who needs a warm place to stay.
Pastor Danny Russell of Culbertson Baptist Church said each cot represents more than just a place to sleep.
“There’ll be an individual with a name and a story lying in that cot,” Russell said.
Russell said the project began with a conversation with the executive director of the Homeless C
