Suffolk County Police say an employee at a smoke shop was caught selling cannabis products without a license following a community-driven investigation announced on Wednesday, Dec. 3.

Mirza Imtiaz Ahmed, 43, of Selden, was found selling cannabis and THC products at Convenience and Smoke Shop on the 540 block of Smithtown Bypass during an inspection around 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 2, according to the release. Officers from the Fourth Precinct Crime Section and the Town of Smithtown Fire Marshal launched the investigation after receiving numerous complaints about unlicensed cannabis sales at local businesses.

Assorted cannabis, THC items, and flavored vape products were seized as part of the operation, police said.

Ahmed was charged with Unlicensed Cannabis Sale and False Personation. The Town of Smithtown Fire Marshal also issued several code violations to the business, according to the release.

Ahmed received a Desk Appearance Ticket and is scheduled to appear at First District Court in Central Islip at a later date.
