A Long Island man is accused of fleeing a traffic stop and injuring two Nassau County police officers during his arrest.

The incident happened in New Cassel around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2, when officers were investigating a GMC van on Park Avenue near Hopper Street, according to Nassau County Police.

The driver, identified as José Henrriquez Guillen, tried to hide a plastic bag containing a white powdery substance before refusing to exit the vehicle, police said. He then drove off, sparking a brief pursuit.

Officers stopped the vehicle shortly after and attempted to take him into custody. During the struggle, Guillen resisted arrest, injuring two officers, according to police. Both officers were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Guillen, 44, of Westbury, is charged with two counts of second-degree assault, two counts of second-degree obstructing governmental administration, two counts of reckless driving, tampering with physical evidence, unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, and resisting arrest.

He is set to be arraigned Wednesday, Dec. 3, at First District Court in Hempstead.
