A hiker died Tuesday morning while on the Boo Hoff Trail in La Quinta.

Cal Fire received a call at around 9:48 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2, regarding the hiker, the department told The Desert Sun.

By the time rescuers arrived, the hiker had died. It's unclear if the person, whose identity has yet to be released, died before the call took place or while rescue units were en route.

Cal Fire Capt. John Clingingsmith said a mountain biker who found the hiker first made the call, and other civilians had gathered at the spot before rescuers arrived.

There was no evidence of foul play, according to a spokesperson for the Riverside County Sheriff's Department. However, the investigation remained ongoing.
