When Brian Walshe filed a missing person’s report for his wife, Ana, on Jan. 4, 2023, he told police the last time he saw her was the morning of New Year’s Day.

That morning, Walshe told police, Ana Walshe took a rideshare to Boston Logan Airport to fly back to Washington, D.C. for a work emergency. Brian Walshe was specific: he said his wife flew JetBlue to the nation’s capital that morning and left the home between 6 a.m. and 7 a.m.

But it was all a lie.

During the third day of Walshe’s murder trial Wednesday, prosecutors called several witnesses to blow up that story.

Even though Walshe’s defense admitted during its opening statement that he lied to police — and he has pleaded guilty to doing so — no such evidence was before the jury until Wednesday morning. Opening statements
