PEORIA, Ill. – Now that it owns the facility, Peoria Public Schools is looking to renovate Central Park Pool .
The district bought the facility earlier this year after the Peoria Park District decided against managing the pool in the future.
Superintendent Doctor Sharon Desmoulin-Kherat says renovations are expected to cost around three million dollars, and includes work on the filter system, infrastructure, and HVAC.
But she tells 25 News that Central Park Pool is a vital resource.
“Our community needs this pool to help train children how to swim, help families to congregate, and support their children,” Desmoulin-Kherat said.
Kherat says the district is hoping to add swimming back to the school curriculum once the pool can be opened.
