WATERLOO, Iowa — With temperatures dropping below zero, efforts are underway to provide warmth for those in need. The cold weather front, which could bring potential record lows for early December, has prompted action to offer a safe refuge from the cold.
Captain Zachary Zumwalt and the Waterloo Salvation Army are proactively addressing community needs regardless of the season.
"So it's no different for the cold," Zumwalt said. "We have thought about that even in the last couple of weeks as those temperatures have started to dive. We've been thinking about, OK, now it's gonna get really cold. What does our role in that look like? And for us, that means providing a safe place for people."
