WATERLOO, Iowa — Dave Boesen emerged victorious over Mayor Quentin Hart in the Waterloo mayoral race on Tuesday, securing 54 percent of the vote. This win concludes Hart's 10-year tenure as mayor.

Boesen's victory means his current city council seat will soon be vacant. The county auditor confirmed that the seat will become open once Boesen is sworn in as mayor on January 2. The city council will then have 60 days to either appoint a new council member or hold a special election.
