CUMBERLAND – On Friday Nov. 14, officials from the Rhode Island Judiciary, the Rhode Island Bar Association, and the Secretary of State's Office carried out their plans to educate students on their First Amendment rights in honor of Constitution Day.
Judges Janette Bertness and George Lazieh, along with attorneys Amy Goins and Rebecca Aitchinson, visited and spoke with 8th-grade students at North Cumberland Middle School about the court's interpretation of free speech.
They also held a Q&A session at the end of each assembly, and spoke about how First Amendment rights apply to students at school, home, and later in adulthood.
