HOUSTON — A Buddhist monk who was hit by a truck last month in Southeast Texas had successful surgery to have his leg amputated.
The monk was walking with a group that was on a peace march across the United States.
The group, Walk For Peace, announced that Bhante Dam Phommasan’s surgery to remove his leg was completed successfully on Wednesday morning, and he's now beginning the healing process.
"On behalf of the Walk For Peace community, we extend our deepest appreciation for your prayers, compassion, and support during this challenging time. Please continue to keep Bhante in your thoughts as he focuses on recovery," a social media post said.
The group of about a dozen Buddhist monks was on a peace walk from Fort Worth to Washington, D.C. at the time.
