COLUMBUS, Ohio —
Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine has vetoed a bill that would have allowed 14- and 15-year-olds to work until 9 p.m. on school nights with parental consent, extending the current cutoff from 7 p.m.
Supporters of the bill argued that it would help businesses and teach teens valuable skills. Advertisement
However, Gov. DeWine said, "While he believes it is important for teens to learn how to work, that must be balanced with enough time to study."
The proposal had the support of business groups like the Ohio Restaurant and Hospitality Alliance , which represents nearly 25,000 restaurants and more than 564,000 employees across the state.
