Families have been told to expect ‘a bang’ after police began evacuating 200 families from homes in Derby.

An evacuation zone across seven residential streets has been put in place for 24 hours as families scramble to collect pets and medicine.

The order was made after officers carried out a warrant acting on intelligence about potentially explosive materials at a home in Vulcan Street.

Two men, one in his 40s and another in his 50s, have been arrested on suspicion of explosives offences.

They remain in police custody.

Derbyshire Police say the incident is not currently being treated as terrorism and there is no wider risk to the community.
