The National Weather Service released a snow squall warning at 10:46 a.m. on Thursday in effect until 11:15 a.m. for Cayuga, Chenango, Cortland and Tompkins counties.

"At 10:45 a.m., a dangerous snow squall was located along a line extending from near Locke to near Groton to Scott to near Fabius, moving east at 45 mph," states the weather service. "Travel will become difficult and potentially dangerous within minutes."

Locations impacted by the warning include Cortland, Homer, Virgil, Groton, Locke, Dryden, Plymouth, Preble, Sherburne and Scott.

The weather service states, "Reduce speed and turn on headlights! During snow squalls, the visibility may suddenly drop to near zero in whiteout conditions."
