TACOMA, Wash. — As the South Sound braces for a wave of growth, one of the region’s largest transit expansions is inching closer to reality . The Tacoma Dome Link Extension is an eight-mile light rail extension that would connect Federal Way to Tacoma.
Construction is slated to begin around 2030, with passenger service expected by 2035. Once complete, the project will add four new stations: South Federal Way, Fife, Portland Avenue in Tacoma, and the Tacoma Dome.
For many South Sound residents, the new extension isn’t just about convenience; it also offers relief from traffic, rising gas prices, and the daily grind on I-5.
