A leaked Department of National Defence document comparing the F-35 and Gripen fighter jets is adding tension to Ottawa’s still-unresolved decision on Canada’s next combat aircraft.

Radio-Canada reported on Nov. 26 that it obtained the technical scoring results used in the federal government’s 2021 fighter jet competition. The internal chart shows the U.S.-built F-35 significantly outperforming Sweden’s Gripen across multiple military and technical categories.

The document, marked confidential, had not been seen even by Saab, the maker of the Gripen.
