TYLER, Texas (KLTV/KALB) - In late November, a group of monks and a few lay followers made a stop in deep East Texas to spend the night. The Newton County Sheriff and other locals welcomed them as they passed through the area.

About a week before their travels through East Texas, on November 19, one of the monks had been involved in an accident as the group walked along U.S. Hwy 90 near State Highway 99 in Dayton. Several monks were involved, as well as an escorted driver.
