TEMPE, Ariz. — A California man has been arrested by Tempe police for allegedly abusing a 13-year-old he met online.

Daniel Martinez, 23, was arrested on Nov. 19 in California and has been extradited to Arizona to face criminal charges.

Tempe police said parents of a 13-year-old girl discovered explicit messages and images on her phone, resulting in police launching an investigation.

Police learned the girl met Martinez online through Discord when she was 12 and the two began exchanging hundreds of nude images and videos over the course of several months. Martinez allegedly traveled to Arizona multiple times to engage in sexual conduct with the girl.

Martinez is facing charges of sexual conduct with a minor and sexual exploitation of a minor.
