Family, friends, teammates and community members gathered for a funeral mass for Melody Xu on Thursday morning in Mississauga, before the young girl was laid to rest in a private interment afterward.

Xu, 8, was struck and killed by a man driving a Lexus SUV on North Service Road in Oakville on Nov. 6. Her mother, Weihong Gao, was also hit by the car and is still recovering from her injuries. She used a cane to lead the procession with the casket as it entered Saviour of the World Chinese Catholic Mission for the service.

Her father, Hao Xu, was one of the pallbearers of the white casket, that had her name written in gold letters on it. Her younger brother, Aiden, was carried by another family member.
